Can’t send a message on Facebook Messenger?

In such a case, there are two things you need to know. The 1st one is if you can not send a message to a specific person. And the 2nd one is you cannot send a message to anyone in your contacts list on Messenger. However, let me answer both of these questions below with various fixes. Moreover, the first thing you need to try is to update your Messenger application to its latest version. Check if they can fix the problem.

Why can’t you send messages to a single user?

This is because that person has blocked you on Facebook Messenger. In this case, you will see something like “can’t send a message”. That is a confirmed indication that you have been blocked, by that person. The fix for this problem is not there at all, thus you can ask the user humbly by sending him a message from someone else ID to unblock you. That is the only thing that can help you.

Why can’t you send messages to other contacts in Messenger?

It’s because you have been reported to Facebook as spam. Thus Facebook has temporarily banned your profile from sending messages to other users on Messenger. Don’t worry about this, it’s temporary, and to fix this problem, all you need is to wait. Also, don’t spam around, and stay calm. Let the dust settle. Don’t over-post on Facebook share lots of stories and send messages on Messenger. Wait for at least 14 days and the issue will be solved automatically.

Facebook Messenger messages stuck on sending

It appears to be a common problem on Facebook Messenger. This is due to poor internet connection speed or Facebook server glitches.

If you are using the regular version of Messenger and your network connection speed is very poor. Then try to install the Messenger Lite application. That works perfectly on poor internet speed and mobile phones with low hardware specs. This will fix the messenger message stuck on sending.

However, once you confirm there is no problem at your end. Then the 2nd thing is you need to check whether Facebook Messenger servers (data centers) are up and running. Sometimes, there are millions of traffic on Facebook Messenger servers, thus they become irresponsive or unable to handle your message request.

Though that is the case you will need to wait for at least an hour or 30 and check back if their servers are up and running, this way can easily fix the messenger stuck on sending issues.

Moreover, if you are in a hurry and wanna fix the stuck-on-sending problem. Then you may wanna try installing a VPN app on your smartphone. This way it will change your location and make Messenger work on sending messages. Also, it can connect you with other messenger data centers across the globe. However, people often experience the same issue in secret conversations too.

Reasons for Messenger messages sent but not delivered

Here, there are several reasons behind the Facebook Messenger message sent but not delivered. These reasons are:

The 1st one might be, you are blocked on/from Messenger. The 2nd one is your chat was for some reason ignored by the person or marked as spam by Messenger. The 3rd one is the message is not yet approved by Messenger data centers or it’s due to the Connection Requests. The connection or message request is actually a feature in Messenger, that filters messages from unknown contacts and moves them to the spam folder. The 4rth and possible reason may be the recipient is currently offline or he/she has not installed Messenger.

Someone has blocked you

You sent a message on Messenger but not delivered. This is due to you having been blocked on Facebook Messenger by the user. Or Messenger has blocked your account temporarily, it is also called a shadowban from Messenger. This is because someone has repeatedly reported your account with proof. And Messenger accepted their request, which is why your account is temporarily in shadow ban status. There is nothing you can do but wait for a few days or at least a month.

Someone ignored you

Messenger allows users to ignore and unignore each other on the platform. Thus it is a perfect feature to get rid of someone’s message you don’t want to look at too. Alternatively, things can happen to you. it’s either you’re messaging someone for the 1st time or your message is going to the spam folder. It’s an automatic action by Messenger.

So that later on the receiver can go ahead and get into the Message Requests and unignore you if he/she wants to. Possibly the person has manually ignored you on Facebook Messenger to stop seeing your messages. In such a scenario, your messages are sent on Messenger but not delivered or showing as delivered.

The recipient is offline or not on Messenger

You only see a delivered icon next to the message you sent on messenger, once it is available to read on the recipient device. Meaning, once you send a message, it goes to the Facebook Messenger servers, then downloading it on the recipient’s phone if he/she is online.

After that, it is available on the recipient’s phone, you will then see that delivery mark next to it. If the recipient is offline or not using Facebook Messenger, then the message from your side is sent but you won’t see that delivered mark next to it. Thus you can for the recipient to get online and receive your message or invite him/her to Messenger if he/she has not installed it yet.

My messenger is down, I can’t send and receive a message

Possibly it’s the Messenger server glitch or it’s down. There could be ongoing maintenance on Messenger servers, or they are experiencing some system glitches, which is the reason you are having this issue. Moreover, you can check here if the Facebook Messenger server is live, up, and running perfectly.

Moreover, if you can’t send a message then probably you have been blocked by those users. But if you can’t receive a message at the moment, then it’s a server issue. Wait for a few minutes and the issue will be resolved automatically. Use Messenger Lite instead.

What does it mean, if my message has been sent but not delivered?

It means that the message has been successfully sent from your side on Messenger. The Messenger server got your message and your message will be delivered to the recipient as soon as he/she gets online. If your messages are sent but not delivered for a long time, consider that you have been ignored or muted by the recipient.

Possibly when users on both sides are not connected. Facebook Messenger then moves their new message to the Message Request and or Spam folder. Once the receiver approves each other connection requests the problems resolve automatically.

The other possible reason is that the user you have sent a message to, is not yet on Messenger or he/she is offline at the moment. Once the recipient gets online, your message will be delivered and then a delivery mark appears next to your message.

Fix Messenger keeps saying “Can’t send message”

This is common when someone has blocked Messenger only. Thus you guys remain friends on Facebook but can’t send messages to that person on Messenger. This is why you are having this issue. In such a case, you cannot do anything, but request the person to unblock you.

The other possible reason is the Facebook Messenger server. Sometimes you may see things like “Chat is currently unavailable” and similar things when Facebook Messenger servers are down or having some technical problems. In such a case, you need to wait for a few hours and check back if the has been resolved.

Last but not least, the recipient you are trying to message is not using Facebook anymore. The person has deactivated or deleted his Facebook account. Also, Facebook deletes accounts when someone violates their terms and conditions.

Why would messages in Messenger be sent but not delivered?

As I mentioned earlier in the article, there are several reasons why would message in Messenger be sent yet not delivered. The most common reasons for such issues are:

  • Someone has blocked you, messenger, only.
  • You have been ignored.
  • Messenger is moving your message to the Spam folder.
  • You guys are not connected yet on Messenger.
  • Facebook Messenger servers are down.
  • Temporarily Messenger server glitches.
  • Someone has added to their restricted list on Facebook.
  • The recipient is currently offline.
  • The user has muted you and is offline.
  • The receiver is not yet on Messenger or uninstalled the Messenger app.

Will messages show as delivered if blocked on Messenger?

No, if someone has blocked you on Facebook Messenger, you will see a checkmark next to your message. But that checkmark won’t become grey, thus a white checkmark next to a message means it’s sent, but not delivered. Whenever you see that the checkmark beneath your message becomes grey, consider it is delivered to the recipient.

There are three types of indications when you send a message on Facebook Messenger. The one is when you tap the send button, you will see a white checkmark beneath your message, which means from your side, it’s sent. The 2nd one is the Grey checkmark beneath your message, once you see that it means, your message has been successfully delivered to the receiver. The 3rd one is when you see someone’s profile picture beneath your message, it is confirmed that the recipient has read your message.

Facebook Messenger not sending messages

The most common reason behind the issue is: You have exchanged a lot of messages today. Your messages don’t comply with Facebook Community Guidelines. Your Facebook Messenger is not up to date. Messenger servers are down at the moment. You have not cleared your phone junk files for a long time. Last but not least there is a problem with your phone or internet connection (connectivity). Just troubleshoot these problems and you will get them fixed. Thus Facebook Messenger will then send or deliver your messages successfully.
