Instagram now allows users to show or hide their activity. Thus you can easily change your activity status, last seen, anytime you want. This way anyone you follow and have direct conversations with when you were last online or offline. The activity status of your account is like its visibility. You can manage it within the Instagram application. Only make sure to update your IG app to its latest version. Because this feature is only available in the latest IG app now.
Both Android and iOS users can do it. However, I will show both methods to do the same on your Android phone or iPhone and iPad devices. What happens when you turn off activity status on Instagram?
When you turn off the activity status on Instagram. You actually disallowed anyone you follow or started a conversation with to see your online status (a green dot on your profile icon). Also, they won’t be able to see when you were last active. But keep in mind, by turning off your activity status, you also won’t be able to see when they were last active. In short, nobody can see your active status, and you will not see anyone’s active status. Moreover, keep in mind that the mute feature on IG has nothing to do with activity status.
Turn on activity status on Instagram
By default, anyone’s activity status is set to ON. This means you can see others when they were last active, and they can yours. However, If you have turned it Off and want to turn it On again. The below method works on all devices, Android and iPhone. Please follow these steps:
Open the Instagram app, then tap your account icon at the bottom right. Tap the Menu icon at the top right then Settings & Privacy, then Show Activity Status. Tap to turn on the toggle next to Show Activity Status.
That is it, now you are showing your activity status to others and you can see theirs. Moreover, if you are using multiple accounts on IG, then switch to the one you want to change the active status on.
How to turn off activity status on Instagram
You can easily hide or turn off your activity status on the Instagram application. The below method works on Android and iPhone too. Just ensure that you are using the latest Instagram app. Follow these steps to turn off activity status on IG:
In the Instagram app, go to your profile, then tap Menu then Settings & Privacy. Now tap Messages and Story Replies. Tap Show Activity Status. Disable the toggle next to the option.
Update: Disable active Status on Instagram using PC
Instagram has two variants, its App and Web version. Though you can disable, or hide active status on IG using your computer. All you need is a web browser with an internet connection. Here is how to do it:
Go to web.instagram.com and log in to your account. Click More at the bottom right then Settings. Now click How Others Can Interact with You. Uncheck the box next to “Show Activity Status”. This is how to disable or hide active status on IG using your computer.
Hide online status on Instagram
You can choose to hide your active status on the Instagram application. To do so please follow these simple steps:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Go to your profile.
- Tap Menu > Settings & Privacy then Show Activity Status.
- Disable the toggle next to the “Show Activity Status” option.
This is exactly how you can hide your active status on Instagram. Moreover, keep in mind that, if you hide your active now status, you won’t be able to see somebody else active status. To see someone else active status, you need to enable your active status again.
Can you turn off active status on IG for one person?
No. You cannot turn off active status on Instagram for one person. An alternative way to do so it block that person. However, if the person you have blocked wants to see your active status, he/she can use a fake account to do so. So nothing works unless you disable the active status for everyone on IG. Even if you add that person to the restricted list on IG, they will still see your active status.
How to know if someone has turned off activity status on IG?
You cannot tell exactly if someone is active or offline if they have turned off their activity status on Instagram. An alternative way to find out if someone is active or online is to send them a direct Direct Message. If you get an immediate reply, it indicates that they are online. You can also the person’s profile and recent comments. So, there is no way to see someone’s online status on IG, if they have disabled it. Don’t worry then cannot see yours, if they have turned off theirs.
Why can’t I see when someone was last active on IG?
It’s because they have disabled their active status on Instagram. When someone turns off their activity status on IG, his follower, or anyone he chats with, cannot see his last active on the platform. You can also do the same, but then you won’t be able to see someone else last active.
