Switch Between Classic and New Facebook Layout

This morning when I opened up my Facebook account. I saw a message at the top that I was invited to try the new Facebook design. When I switch from the old/classic version to the new one. It’s amazing and looks great but the UI is quite like an Android device. I am not talking about the basic version of FB. But the new design is a materialistic FB design.

In this guide, I am gonna show you how to switch to the new FB design or layout. Don’t worry I am gonna also show you how to switch back to the classic version too. Note that this is only for desktop, I mean Windows, MAC, and Linux users. Who uses Facebook for the web on their PC. I will also show you the fix if the button is missing or not showing up. So please stay and read…

Did Facebook Change Their Layout?

Yes, they did change their FB layout and look like nothing but an Android phone. The user experience is kind of buggy at least of now, but the over-design is looking pretty decent. However, they included dark mode in it, so you can use it at night.

You will have an overall different experience, but remember once you have switched to the new design or layout, and used it for over a week. Then you may see the “Switch to classic Facebook” again. That is the weird thing users reported on this blog.

New Features in the Latest Design

In the latest design, we have got everything changed. For example, once you switch you can then enable the dark mode. Yes, I am talking about the official dark mode. You can simply enable it but would need to switch to the latest UI first.

The loading effect is great and the icons do look amazing. You have now the new menu design you can access it from the top-right drop-down arrow. But to access Settings just click the drop-down arrow then Settings & Privacy and then Settings.

Moreover, everything remains the same. Meaning, that each setting stays where it was but the icons are updated. Don’t worry you won’t get confused at all. The enable and disable toggles are updated and looks like these are adopted from iOS toggles.

The news feed is looking great and it looks perfect. You can now have the same user experience because the news feed is just like we have in the FB official app. In the news feed, we have the Home, Watch, Groups section, and Gaming.

As always the Create, Messenger, Notifications, and Account options are at the top right. The Birthday and Contacts list is on the right side. Moreover, the Pages and Shortcuts can be found on the left side of the News Feed. This is just in case you wanna access to them. However, the icons are new and look perfectly fine.

The personal profile section is great and has been polished. However, things are quite where they were and you won’t have any issues at all while using the latest design of FB. However, now let’s get to the procedure of switching to the latest version.

Read How to Change Language on Facebook.

Moreover, if the switch to the classic Facebook option is not available or missing then follow the steps in this video below. Also, find the update section for switching without that classic switch option.

Switch from Old to New Facebook Design (layout)

You may have noticed a notification at the top of your news feed. If not then you are here at the right place the know about the switching procedure between old/classic and new FB design. Please find the below update section if you don’t have that Switch button. First, here is how to get into the latest FB design:

  1. Login to your Facebook account.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow at the top right.
  3. Now click Switch to New Facebook.
  4. You will be then redirected to the new FB design.

That is how easy is it if you wanna enable the official dark mode on the new FB. You can simply follow this guide. Moreover, you need to keep in mind that, you may not see the latest version yet. Because it depends on how Facebook looks at you and your FB profile and most importantly your location.

For example, if you don’t have the option to get into the new FB design. Then you should wait, and that is the only thing you can do. Other than that, you are just wasting your precious time.

Revert to Classic Facebook from the New Layout

If you think the new design is confusing. Then there is an easy procedure you can follow to revert to the classic Facebook version (layout). To switch from new to old Facebook:

  1. Click the drop-down arrow at the top.
  2. Now click Switch to Classic Facebook.
  3. You will be shortly redirected to the classic version.

That is pretty, easy, and simple. For your information, the latest UI has quiet and everything. In my opinion, you should have started using the new version. Because sooner o later they are gonna shift. So until that, you must know everything about it. But the choice is yours.

Fix Switch to New Facebook Option Not Available

If you don’t have the option “switch to classic Facebook” in the menu. This is because Facebook has removed the switch to the classic Facebook button and is not available anymore. You can’t actually switch to go back to the old layout but use some alternate option.

Possibly, It is your location and you are still on the waiting list to get the switch to a new Facebook option. Because the option is not available on each Facebook worldwide. Sooner or later you are gonna get it, don’t worry about it.

Update: How to switch to old Facebook layout 2023

Here is how you can switch from new Facebook to classic. If the below 3 is not working then use the Chrome Extension to revert to classic FB from the new design without that switch button. The procedure is very simple, all you have to do is:

In the new Facebook, click the drop-down little arrow at the top right. Now click Switch to Classic Facebook. You will be shortly redirected to the old classic FB. Use this Chrome Extension to revert from the new FB design to the classic.

That is how to do it. However, lots of people are having trouble while doing so. Because they have removed their access to classic Facebook. In that situation, you can not do anything but use the new design. However, from my personal experience, you can try the following tips.

Fix Switch to Classic Facebook Missing

Reading this part of the article, I know you don’t see that switch button. In my personal experience, if anyone has used the new design for quite some time. Then FB algorithm thinks and applies such settings to remove that switch from your account. Facebook will consider you like the new design and you enjoy it because you have not switched.

So that might be the only reason. However, they are forcing the user to use it (who knows why). They don’t have any right to force us to do something we don’t like. Anyhow it’s their platform we are using for free, they can do whatever they want. Now let’s try these tips to fix the problem:

  • Log out of your account login.
  • Use another web browser.
  • Change your location and language.
  • Try to get rid of the cache of the browser.
  • In the last you can their support, I know they won’t reply, and if they do. It will be just an excuse.

However, clearing your browser cache, logging out then logging in to your Facebook account may help. Also, changing your language or region may help you get the “switch to the new Facebook” option. I am sure now you know the procedure.

I still don’t have “switch to new facebook” in the menu. I was under the impression that it would be available to everyone last Monday. Everyone else seems to have it by now, and I can’t seem to find anyone else talking about this. Anyone know what the deal is?

There could be many reasons that you don’t have the new Facebook design and you cannot switch from classic to new FB. However, I can suggest you some tips: clear the browser cache and restart. Try using a VPN and if it is working via a VPN or not. Also, Try logging on a different browser. Last but not least clear cache files on PC as well.

Hi, I don-t have the switch to Old facebook. This new facebook doesn-t work good on my computer, it lags and almost forces me to buy a new one. They removed the button on my account? Do you know another way to do this??

I guess it’s time I stop using facebook once for all then.

I have had the new FB design for some time now and not able to switch back. The one thing I miss is being able to find old FB posts. By scrolling down on my Timeline page I used to see the option, top left to access previous years/months of posts. I used this feature quite often! Is there another way to find/search for older FB posts with the new format? Other than this, I enjoy the new format. Thanks for your help.

    1. Samad Ali Khan says

I don’t like this new FB and it was not my choice to switch. When I click on notifications I only get a sliver of the list so I can’t see what they are or mark them as read if I don’t want to open them. I can’t get to my own page, and the account button doesn’t work to allow me to change back. Change is not always for the best and I wish they would just leave things alone.

    1. Samad Ali Khan says

      Exactly

Can you please find out from Facebook why not all users have the option to go back to the old version??? They advertise you can switch back at anytime, yet I have NEVER had the link to do so, even a day after I first switched. There is no explanation for why this option is omitted for some users. I have reported it many times, including screenshots. The link to switch is simply not there.

    1. Samad Ali Khan says

Most of my blog readers have the same issue, but its the algorithm doing such things. Even if you and use the new version for just 24 hours. Then Facebook automatically removes the switchback option from the account. It is so annoying on a platform like Facebook. But once it’s removed then there nothing we can do.

      1. Samad Ali Khan says

However, I will also try to find a fix for it.

I have the same problem, I do not have the option to switch to the old classic FB view. I had for a week or two the new version and it’s simply terrible. It works excruciatingly, but excruciatingly slow, and pages do not open as they should. If I open the chat to write someone a message, I can’t close this window afterwards. If I post something, I cannot see people’s reactions (emoticons) they do not charge immediately but after a very long time, except if someone comments (then they do appear). Any window of any kind I open, I cannot close it any longer and can’t see the main page underneath, sometimes even if I go back to homepage. I have to charge FB again by tasting its web address on the browser.
I’ve had enough. The worse mistake I could do. Now I lose incredible amount of time if I want to read someone’s status or share something. If you have found a way to revert this idiocy, please share it with us.
    Best,
    Cris

When I use the new format, I cannot post links created with AnyImage. When I switch back to classic, I get a warning, but I override and post my fully clickable image on my timeline. Why would this be. When I try with new format, I get no message or explanation it simply indicates posting for a second or two, stops and things just sit in editor.

  14. Bun says

I don’t have a button for the new Fb UI.

    Thank you.

For those who Facebook has taken away the option to switch back, there is a new working solution, just get the amazing Revert Site extension, it’s totally free and really works! it switches you back to the old design immediately and only takes a few seconds to install, give it a go!

I use the above chrome Chrome extension Works perfectly even when there is now a switch button and it doesn’t let Facebook revert it back to the new layout.

Hi Samad, I’ve been using the new format for my business page and like it. However, there were some features that I was unable to adjust and so I switched it to classic mode. Some features were fixed but now I can’t go back to the new format. Is there a way to go from classic to new after having switched already?

      1. Samad Ali Khan says

Hi, I had a Facebook business page for years and a few months ago I may have allowed them to switch to a new something or other and today I just noticed my Shop Now button is missing. I have searched the web high and low and cannot find any answers. The instructions on how to add the button talk about features I no longer have. Do you know anything about this? How to fix this?
